Shark Hat, Version 3.0. Finally.

After way too long, the new, and hopefully error-free Shark Hat is available for download. You can get it on Ravelry or on my page here. Special thanks to the lovely Kate (discosmurf on Ravelry) for making some necessary mods to this pattern and making my re-write much easier. Also for allowing me use of a few of her adorable hat photos:

It is entirely my fault for letting this pattern go on for TWO YEARS without the needed update. I should have shut it down and saved people the torment of it, but when I did, people wanted it back. What do you do?

I can’t help but be a little aggravated that very few knitters contacted me regarding the pattern’s issues, but many were adamant to complain loudly about it on their completed hat pages on Ravelry. Here’s the magic of Ravelry: I can see every hat linking back to my pattern. I can read the comments. I can see the errors for myself.

I wonder, sometimes, why people do not take a moment to contact the designer directly. I make it a point to always contact the designer if I have a problem with a pattern. Perhaps I’m just logical.

Anyways, it’s no one’s fault but my own, just a musing. I worked very hard to make sure this pattern version made sense, and had it proofread by one other person.

I ask here as well as everywhere else:

If there is a problem with this pattern, please please do not hesitate to contact me at allisonmacalister at gmail dot com. That is the fastest way I can track the problem and get an errata out there.

Thanks everyone! I hope the new and improved Shark Hat causes everyone a little more RAWR and happiness and a lot less frustration. :)

My brother has made me promise to learn to knit so that I can make him this hat, but I’m heartbroken – the pdf in your post doesn’t seem to let me download it – “page not found”. Saaaaadface :(

I sent you hat comments. :D

I have tried the first bit a couple of times on the new edition of the shark hat but i always end up with 14 stitches, instead of 18, Do you have any idea what I am doing wrong.
    Thanks

Thanks I reposted on the other board about the shark hat. lol. Yes this did help and I restarted the shark hat, And I had the right amount of stitches. thank you. The only problem I have know is that my hat is made up of garter stitch instead of st st as seen in the photo. could you please give me another pointer where I’ve went wrong. I think I might have to have a couple of shots making the hat. On the good side is (apart from the garter) it looks like a cool looking shark. Just got a bit of the tail to finish and that will be me.
Thank you very much for the lovely pattern.

Hi, I found your site through Halos of Hope. This seems like the most recent post about your shark hat. But neither of the links go to a pattern? This post talks about v3 but the Rav link goes to an older version that does not include a download. The other link goes to an older blog post that mentions the hat but doesn’t seem to have a link to the pattern. So if there is a v3 available I’d love to try it. If not, I’d be happy to test knit for you. I’m random-charm on Ravelry. (I would say I’m adventurous and no longer a beginning knitter, a well-seasoned crafter, and a copywriter in my other life.)

Please send me the pattern -I will not comment :)

Omigosh! soooooo perfect! My school mascot is a shark (and I’m known among everybody for my odd hats) and I would probably get, like, 1,000 requests for it! (I say yes to everybody on the condition that they buy me the yarn, which usually stops them from asking lol) Also, I have a fish hat so me and my friend could each wear one and chase each other around lol.

Hi. I too have been looking for this pattern and have encountered the same problems as RandomCindy. My mom and I are learning to knit/crochet fun things when she has her chemotherapy treatments. Is there anyway I can get this pattern?!
